Landscaping, Cabro Paving & Exterior Works

External works get cut first when a budget tightens, and they are the first thing anyone notices. They are also the difference between a compound that drains and one that floods every April.

Drainage before surface

Most cabro failure is not the block — it is what is underneath. Inadequate sub-base, no falls, and nowhere for water to go produce a driveway that sinks and rocks within two seasons. We set out levels and falls first, lay a compacted sub-base to the loading the surface will actually carry, and only then pave. It costs more at the outset and it is the reason our paving stays flat.

Planting that survives the dry season

An expensive landscape that needs daily watering will not be watered by year two. We lean on indigenous and adapted species that hold up through a Kenyan dry season, and where irrigation is justified we install it properly — zoned, timed and maintainable — rather than leaving a hosepipe as the plan.

Compounds that take real traffic

A school compound takes bus loads, delivery lorries and several hundred pupils twice a day. A residential driveway does not. We specify block thickness, sub-base depth and edge restraint for the actual loading, which is why our institutional and residential paving specifications differ.

Landscaping & Exterior Works: common questions

Properly laid on an adequate compacted sub-base with correct falls and edge restraint, cabro will serve for many years with minimal maintenance. Laid straight onto poorly prepared ground it will start sinking and rocking within a couple of rainy seasons. The preparation, not the block, decides this.

Yes. We take on external works as standalone contracts, including on properties built by someone else. Our Muthaiga landscaping and Ridgeways exterior works projects were both external works appointments.

Hard landscaping — paving, drainage, earthworks — is best done in the dry season, when ground conditions allow proper compaction. Planting establishes best at the start of the rains, when new stock gets natural watering while it roots. On most projects we sequence the two accordingly.
